Hustler Words – Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has announced the unveiling of the long-awaited production version of the second-generation Roadster supercar. The reveal is slated for April 1, 2026, a date that raises eyebrows considering Musk’s history of missed deadlines and the project’s initial unveiling nearly nine years prior.
Musk, known for his ambitious timelines and occasional slips, suggested the April Fools’ Day reveal provides "some deniability." He quipped that he could claim it was a joke if the launch faced further delays. This announcement comes shortly after Musk stated on Joe Rogan’s podcast his intention to showcase the car by the end of the year, making the 2026 reveal a further postponement.

Musk emphasized that the production model will be significantly different from the prototype shown earlier. He teased that the demo would be the "most exciting, whether it works or not, demo ever of any product," hinting at the possibility of incorporating SpaceX-developed thrusters to achieve flight capabilities.

Production of the Roadster is projected to begin 12 to 18 months after the April 2026 reveal. During the shareholder meeting, Musk confirmed that customers who pre-ordered the "Founders Series" version of the Roadster, paying $250,000 in 2017, would be invited to the unveiling event. "It’s the least we can do for our long-suffering Roadster reservation holders," he stated.
The delays have frustrated many, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who attempted to cancel his Roadster reservation and initially faced difficulties obtaining a refund. Altman shared his experience on X, highlighting the extended wait time of 7.5 years. Musk responded, pointing out that the refund was eventually processed within 24 hours, adding a personal jab at Altman.
