Hustler Words – Julius AI, an innovative startup specializing in AI-powered data analysis, has secured $10 million in seed funding, spearheaded by Bessemer Venture Partners. The investment underscores the growing demand for accessible and intuitive data analysis tools.
The funding round also saw participation from Horizon VC, 8VC, Y Combinator, and the AI Grant accelerator, alongside prominent angel investors including Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch, and Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson. This diverse group of investors highlights the broad appeal and potential of Julius AI’s technology.

Founded by Rahul Sonwalkar after graduating from Y Combinator in 2022, Julius AI emerged from a pivot from a logistics venture. The platform is engineered to function as a virtual data scientist, capable of dissecting and visualizing complex datasets, and generating predictive models based on natural language prompts. While sharing functional similarities with AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, Julius AI distinguishes itself through its specialized focus on data analysis. The company reports a user base exceeding two million, with over 10 million visualizations generated.

"The most straightforward way to interact with Julius is through natural conversation," Sonwalkar explained to Hustler Words – in a previous interview. "You can engage with the AI as you would with a data analyst on your team, and the AI will execute code and perform analysis just like a human counterpart."
Julius AI can address complex queries and present findings in chart form, such as visualizing the correlation between revenue and net income across various industries in China versus the US.
The startup’s specialized approach caught the attention of Harvard Business School (HBS) professor Iavor Bojinov, who enlisted Sonwalkar to tailor Julius AI for HBS’s new Data Science and AI for Leaders course.
"We were told we wouldn’t succeed, given the capabilities of larger foundational model companies," Sonwalkar noted. "However, we discovered that a focused use case is paramount."
Sonwalkar is also known for orchestrating a viral prank following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter (now X), where he posed as a laid-off Twitter engineer named "Rahul Ligma."
Despite the notoriety from the stunt, Sonwalkar emphasizes that Julius AI is deserving of greater recognition.
"I don’t believe many people associate me with that incident anymore," he told Hustler Words – . "I am now recognized far more frequently for Julius."
