Hustler Words – Starbridge, a startup aiming to revolutionize how businesses navigate the often-opaque world of public sector sales, has secured a $42 million Series A funding round led by David Sacks’ Craft Ventures. Founder Justin Wenig, a Y Combinator alumnus, aims to solve the data fragmentation issues that plague companies trying to sell to government entities.
Wenig’s previous startup, Coursedog, which modernized tools for higher education, exposed him to the challenges of dealing with the public sector. He found that accessing basic information, like past purchases, was often a bureaucratic nightmare. "Out of hundreds of startups, only a handful of us were trying to modernize how government and education worked," Wenig explained. Investors, he noted, were wary of the slow pace and red tape.

After selling Coursedog for nine figures in 2021, Wenig launched Starbridge in 2024 to address these pain points. The platform aggregates public web data, providing sales teams with a centralized view of opportunities, ranked by the likelihood of purchase. This allows vendors to focus on high-potential leads and stay informed about key changes within public sector organizations.

"Critical buying information is scattered across PDFs, agency websites, meeting minutes, and outdated directories," Wenig stated. Starbridge’s platform consolidates this information, giving sales teams a data-backed view of where to focus their efforts.
The Series A round also included participation from Owl Ventures, CommonWeal Ventures, and Autotech Ventures. This brings Starbridge’s total funding to $52 million. The company plans to use the new capital to launch "Starbridge integrated experience," which will integrate its technology directly into users’ existing workflows.
Wenig highlighted the shift in investor sentiment towards govtech, fueled by the rise of AI. He recalled the lack of interest in Coursedog, but now sees a new wave of founders tackling systemic challenges. "Maybe nobody wants to run for office anymore, but they do want to build," he said.
While competitors like GovWin and GovSpend exist, Starbridge differentiates itself by building AI-powered workflows on top of its datasets. This makes it easier for sales teams to leverage the platform’s insights.
