Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, announced that the platform had "just crossed" the $1 billion mark in annual recurring revenue from subscriptions, attributing this milestone to a successful holiday marketing campaign. Furthermore, xAI executives reported impressive metrics for the Imagine tool, claiming it generates 50 million videos daily and over 6 billion images within the last 30 days, according to internal data.
However, these substantial image and video generation figures cannot be entirely disassociated from a significant controversy that simultaneously gripped the X platform. During the same period, the platform experienced a surge in engagement fueled by the widespread proliferation of AI-generated explicit images, including deepfake pornography. With an estimated 1.8 million such images generated in just nine days, it is highly probable that a considerable portion of Imagine’s reported output includes this contentious content.
The most captivating segment of the presentation arrived towards its conclusion, as Musk reiterated the critical importance of developing space-based data centers, despite the formidable technical hurdles. His vision extended even further, proposing a lunar factory dedicated to manufacturing AI satellites. This ambitious plan includes a "lunar mass driver"—essentially an electromagnetic catapult—designed to launch these satellites into orbit. Such infrastructure, Musk posited, could enable the deployment of AI clusters capable of harnessing substantial portions of the sun’s total energy output, or even facilitating expansion into other galaxies.
