This alarming revelation, posted on their dark web leak platform and subsequently reviewed by hustlerwords.com, details the alleged theft of "sensitive data on almost all FBI agents and individuals who filed an application with the FBI for a job."
The initial exposure of this incident came via 404 Media, which reported receiving a sample of the stolen information. This sample reportedly included names, home addresses, and phone numbers of FBI agents and their spouses, with portions of the data verified against public records. Intriguingly, ShinyHunters has declared that their motivation is not financial gain. Instead, they are demanding the FBI retract a report they contend contains false allegations about their group.
According to independent reports detailing the attack’s methodology, the breach initiated with the compromise of an Oracle PeopleSoft server. This system, commonly employed by human resources departments and recruiters for managing job applicant data, served as a crucial pivot point. From there, the attackers reportedly moved laterally to an Amazon-hosted government cloud environment, where the extensive data on agents and applicants was ultimately accessed and exfiltrated. ShinyHunters claims to have acquired terabytes of data, though they have not specified their intentions should the FBI fail to comply with their demands.
