Hustler Words – Doji, a new startup, has secured $14 million in seed funding to revolutionize virtual try-ons. Led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Seven Seven Six Ventures, this investment will fuel advancements in Doji’s AI-powered avatar technology, promising a more engaging and social online shopping experience. The app, currently in invite-only mode, leverages cutting-edge diffusion models to create photorealistic avatars, allowing users to virtually try on clothes and share their looks with friends.
For years, major players like Amazon and Google have attempted to enhance virtual try-on experiences, but Doji aims to differentiate itself through a fun, social approach. Co-founders Dorian Dargan (formerly of Apple and Meta) and Jim Winkens (formerly of DeepMind and Google) recognized the potential of this technology after witnessing the popularity of avatar-creation apps like Lensa. They envisioned a photorealistic, fashion-focused platform that goes beyond simple stylized avatars.

Doji’s app guides users through a process of creating a personalized avatar using selfies and full-body images. The resulting avatar is then used to virtually try on clothing, with the app suggesting looks based on user preferences and selected brands. Users can also upload links to clothing items from external websites to see how they would appear on their avatar.

The company also aims to streamline the virtual try-on process and integrate direct purchasing within the app, eliminating the need for external links. Currently available in over 80 countries, Doji is poised to disrupt the online fashion industry with its innovative approach to virtual try-ons. The founders believe their unique blend of technological expertise and design sensibility sets them apart, promising a more engaging and accurate representation of the user than existing solutions. Doji’s success hinges on its ability to seamlessly blend technology and fashion, creating an enjoyable and personalized shopping experience.
