Hustler Words – Bluesky, the burgeoning social network, has announced it’s reached a significant milestone of 40 million users. To enhance user experience, Bluesky is introducing a "dislikes" feature in beta, aiming to refine personalization within the main Discover feed and across the platform.
This announcement accompanies a suite of conversation control updates, including minor adjustments to replies, improved identification of harmful comments, and strategies to prioritize relevant discussions for each user.

The forthcoming "dislikes" beta will allow Bluesky’s algorithms to learn user preferences based on negative feedback. By disliking posts, users will signal the type of content they wish to see less of. This data will influence content ranking in feeds and the order of replies.

While Bluesky operates as a decentralized network with user-driven moderation, some users have called for platform-level bans on problematic accounts.
However, Bluesky is prioritizing tools that empower users to curate their own experience. These tools include moderation lists for blocking groups of users, content filters, muted words, and subscriptions to external moderation services. Bluesky also allows users to detach quote posts, a measure designed to combat the toxic "dunking" culture prevalent on X (formerly Twitter).
In addition to dislikes, Bluesky is experimenting with ranking updates, design modifications, and other feedback mechanisms to improve conversations.
A new system will map "social neighborhoods" on Bluesky, identifying connections between users who frequently interact. Replies from users within a user’s "neighborhood" will be prioritized, making conversations more relevant and familiar. The new "dislikes" feature may also play a role in this process.
This approach addresses a challenge faced by Meta’s Threads, where users have reported encountering confusing feeds with disjointed conversations.
Bluesky’s plan to map social neighborhoods could mitigate this issue as the platform grows.
The company also claims its latest model excels at identifying and downranking "toxic, spammy, off-topic, or bad faith" replies in threads, search results, and notifications.
Furthermore, clicking the Reply button will now direct users to the full thread instead of the compose screen, encouraging users to read the conversation before responding.
Bluesky believes this change will "reduce content collapse and redundant replies," a common criticism of Twitter/X.
Finally, the platform is making the reply settings feature more visible, allowing users to easily control who can respond to their posts.
