Figma's Bold AI Leap: Acquires Weavy!

Hustler Words – Figma, the collaborative design platform powerhouse, has strategically acquired Weavy, an innovative startup specializing in AI-driven image and video generation. This acquisition signals Figma’s intent to deeply integrate artificial intelligence into its platform, enhancing creative workflows for designers and creators. Weavy will transition into a new entity known as Figma Weave.

The deal brings 20 Weavy team members into the Figma fold. Financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed. Weavy, based in Tel Aviv, was founded in 2024 and secured $4 million in seed funding in June. The seed round was spearheaded by Entrée Capital, with contributions from Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Fiverr founder Micha Kaufman.

For the immediate future, Weavy will continue to operate as a distinct product. However, the long-term vision involves seamless integration with the Figma platform under the Figma Weave brand.

Weavy’s web-based tools empower users to harness the power of various AI models, offering professional-grade editing capabilities for crafting high-quality visuals. These visuals are perfectly suited for product mockups and brand styling. Users can manipulate generated media through layer edits, fine-tuning lighting, colors, and angles using intuitive prompts.

The user experience begins with a prompt on an infinite canvas, initiating image generation. Users can then explore results from different AI models, select an image, and initiate video generation based on another prompt. The platform supports models like Seedance, Sora, and Veo for video, and Flux, Ideogram, Nano-Banana, and Seedream for image generation.

Figma CEO Dylan Field emphasized the potential of Weavy’s node-based approach, stating, "This node-based approach brings a new level of craft and control to AI generation. Outputs can be branched, remixed, and refined, combining creative exploration with iteration and craft. The Weavy team has inspired us with the balance they’ve struck between simplicity, approachability, and power. They’ve also created a tool that’s just a joy to use."

This acquisition underscores the growing demand for AI-powered design platforms. Earlier this month, Perplexity acquired Visual Electric. Krea announced an $83 million funding round in April.
