VSCO's New Camera App Goes Global!

Hustler Words – VSCO, the popular photo editing and sharing platform, has officially launched its iOS camera application, "Capture," worldwide. This follows a limited release in June, where the app was initially available only in Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This expansion marks a significant step for VSCO as they aim to provide a comprehensive photography experience to a broader audience.

In addition to the app launch, VSCO has announced its acquisition of The Freelance Photographer, a company specializing in photography and videography education through online and offline workshops. This strategic move signals VSCO’s commitment to supporting emerging photography professionals.

"There’s a clear gap in the market for business education and industry-specific guidance for emerging photography professionals who are looking to secure sustainable client relationships. The Freelance Photographer serves as a long-term career partner to creatives, offering a comprehensive education, a supportive community, as well as the tools and insight they need to turn their craft into a career," stated Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO.

"Capture," VSCO’s first new app in over a decade, is designed to provide users with a curated photography experience. The app boasts over 50 presets and real-time effects, allowing users to capture images with a distinct aesthetic. It also offers manual controls for camera functions like shutter speed and exposure and supports RAW and ProRAW formats. Users can seamlessly sync their photos with VSCO’s cloud storage.

The Freelance Photographer offers a range of courses, with basic coaching plans starting at $208 per month. A more comprehensive plan, priced at $625 per month, grants subscribers access to over 50 tools, numerous courses, and personalized mentorship from the company’s founder, Paul Weaver.

This acquisition aligns with VSCO’s broader strategy of catering to professional photographers. Last year, the company introduced VSCO Hub, a platform connecting brands with photographers for various projects, and VSCO Sites, enabling photographers to create websites to showcase their work. In May, VSCO launched VSCO Canvas, a collaborative whiteboard tool for creating mood boards.
