Hustler Words – Electrify Expo, a five-year veteran of electric vehicle (EV) festivals across the U.S., is launching a groundbreaking initiative: "Electrify Weekender," a weekend-long EV test drive program. Tesla is the first major partner, with Electrify Expo CEO BJ Birtwell hinting at more brands joining soon. This program aims to provide a relaxed, sales-free environment for potential buyers to experience EVs firsthand, integrating them into daily life to assess their suitability.
Birtwell told hustlerwords.com that this initiative addresses the significant consumer interest in EV test drives—a recent Consumer Reports study revealed that half of all U.S. consumers desire this experience. The "Electrify Weekender" program, starting at the Los Angeles festival (June 21st), requires a driver’s license and auto insurance. Future festivals in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Dallas will follow, with Los Angeles serving as a crucial testing ground.
For Tesla, this partnership could be a strategic move to counter recent sales challenges stemming from an aging product lineup, intensifying competition, and negative publicity surrounding CEO Elon Musk. While Tesla declined to comment, the program offers a potentially powerful way to reach consumers unfamiliar with or hesitant about the brand.

Birtwell emphasizes that "Electrify Weekender" builds upon the success of Electrify Expo’s existing shorter demos, which have proven effective in converting attendees into EV buyers. He views the Expo as a "2.0 version of an auto mall," facilitating direct comparisons between various EV models. The program aims to differentiate itself from traditional dealership test drives, often perceived as high-pressure sales experiences. Birtwell projects thousands of participants, aiming to broaden EV adoption beyond the current 50% of interested consumers, particularly focusing on those who are both curious and skeptical. This initiative signifies a significant step towards making EV ownership more accessible and less daunting for the average consumer.
