Musk: Altman Got His Tesla Refund (Eventually)

Hustler Words – The ongoing feud between Elon Musk and Sam Altman continues to simmer on X, Musk’s social media platform. The latest volley involves a Tesla Roadster reservation, a refund request, and accusations of corporate maneuvering.

Altman, CEO of OpenAI, ignited the exchange with a post detailing his experience reserving a Tesla Roadster back in 2018. He shared screenshots showing his attempt to cancel the order and recoup the $50,000 reservation fee, only to encounter a bounced email. "I really was excited for the car! And I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait," Altman lamented.

The Roadster, initially announced in 2017, has faced repeated delays. Musk recently indicated that a revamped version would be unveiled by the end of the year.

Musk’s initial response was pointed: "You stole a nonprofit," he wrote, echoing previous criticisms of Altman and OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit structure. Musk has been a vocal critic, even launching a rival AI startup, xAI, and pursuing legal action against OpenAI and Apple, alleging anti-competitive collusion. (Altman has dismissed these accusations as hypocritical.)

However, Musk followed up with another claim: "And you forgot to mention act 4, where this issue was fixed and you received a refund within 24 hours. But that is in your nature." This suggests that Altman’s initial post omitted the resolution of the refund issue.

The exchange underscores the deep-seated tensions between the two figures, stemming from their shared history at OpenAI and diverging visions for the future of artificial intelligence. The public nature of their dispute, played out on social media, offers a glimpse into the complex dynamics shaping the AI landscape.
