Hustler Words – A new Pew Research Center analysis reveals a significant trend: left-leaning influencers are embracing Bluesky, but they aren’t abandoning X (formerly Twitter) just yet. This update to Pew’s November 2024 influencer report, which initially excluded Bluesky, focuses on 500 influencers with over 100,000 followers across major platforms. The study shows a stark political divide in Bluesky adoption.
The February/March data indicates that 43% of these influencers have a Bluesky account, with over half of those accounts created after the 2024 presidential election. A striking disparity emerges: 69% of left-leaning influencers (self-identified liberals or Democrats supporting Harris or Biden) joined Bluesky, compared to only 15% of their conservative counterparts.

Despite Elon Musk’s alignment with President Trump seemingly driving users to Bluesky, the vast majority (82%) of the influencers surveyed still maintain an X account, a slight decrease from 85% in summer 2025. This suggests a strategy of diversification rather than complete platform migration. In fact, 87% haven’t abandoned X, and most continue posting more frequently on X than on Bluesky.

However, Bluesky engagement is growing. The percentage of influencers actively posting on Bluesky increased from 54% in early January to 66% by late March, indicating a rising level of activity and potential for future growth. The report highlights a complex landscape where influencers are strategically utilizing multiple platforms, with Bluesky gaining traction, particularly among left-leaning voices, but X remaining the dominant force. The study underscores the evolving dynamics of social media influence and the enduring power of established platforms.
