Hustler Words – Apple is officially sunsetting its video creation app, Clips, signaling the end of its journey in the mobile video editing space. The app has been quietly removed from the App Store, and the company has confirmed it will no longer provide updates for the platform.
According to a support page on Apple’s website, as of October 10, 2025, Clips is no longer available for new downloads. However, existing users can still access and utilize the app on their current or older iOS and iPadOS devices. They can also re-download the app from their Apple account if needed.
Recognizing the inevitable challenges of using an unsupported app, Apple is advising users to download their Clips videos, complete with any applied effects, to their photo library. This will allow them to preserve their creations and edit them using alternative applications.

Clips, launched in 2017, was initially seen as Apple’s foray into the realm of short-form video content, akin to Snapchat and Instagram Stories. While not a social network itself, it empowered users to combine photos and videos with filters, emojis, and music to create engaging content.
In the early days, Hustler Words – ‘s Brian Heater noted that Clips’ video editing capabilities were overly simplistic but suggested the app could showcase Apple’s hardware and software while offering users a path out of then on-the-rise social ecosystems.
MacRumors reports that while Apple did introduce new features to Clips after its initial release, updates in recent years have primarily focused on bug fixes.
The news has been met with little surprise from Apple enthusiasts on Reddit, with many admitting they either tried the app briefly years ago or were entirely unaware of its existence. Furthermore, an app like Clips, which relies on real footage captured by real people, may seem somewhat antiquated in the face of generative AI video apps like OpenAI’s Sora, which recently surpassed 1 million downloads.
