Hustler Words – The digital asset landscape witnessed a dramatic tug-of-war this week as US spot Bitcoin ETFs battled significant late-week volatility. Despite a staggering $773.5 million in outflows recorded across Thursday and Friday, the Bitcoin market managed to stay in the green. According to preliminary data from Farside Investors, the massive influx of capital seen during the first three days of the week—totaling over $1.07 billion—was enough to cushion the blow, leaving a provisional weekly net inflow of approximately $301.2 million.
The late-week retreat was largely driven by heavy redemptions in industry giants. BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC saw significant withdrawals of $110.3 million and $31.8 million, respectively. While Morgan Stanley’s MSBT managed a modest $4.2 million inflow, it was insufficient to halt the downward momentum of the final two trading sessions.

In stark contrast, the Ethereum ETF market faced a much tougher week. While Bitcoin managed to maintain a positive weekly balance, Ether funds struggled to find footing. Following a sharp $110.6 million withdrawal on Thursday, a minor $4.4 million inflow on Friday was unable to reverse the trend, resulting in a provisional weekly outflow of $220.7 million for Ether-based funds.

It is important to note that these figures remain snapshots in time. Data from Farside Investors indicated that certain entries, such as VanEck’s Friday performance, were still pending at the time of reporting. Consequently, these totals should be viewed as incomplete and subject to revision as more granular data becomes available.
From a technical standpoint, these fluctuations highlight the complex nature of ETF mechanics. As noted by analysts, trading existing shares between investors does not always result in a direct change to the fund’s underlying assets. Furthermore, blockchain custody movements do not always provide a perfect mirror of investor subscriptions and redemptions.
As we look toward the upcoming trading week, the primary question for institutional investors is whether the market can regain the momentum lost during this late-week reversal. While the positive weekly balance for Bitcoin suggests a level of underlying resilience, the volatility serves as a reminder that institutional demand remains far from a predictable, one-way street.
